About the contractor's work or conduct. The contractor that received your request is a separate, independent business. We don't employ its staff, set its prices or oversee its jobs. Concerns about an estimate, workmanship, a warranty or behavior on site should go to the contractor directly, first. Hold on to dated photos, the estimate, the signed contract, change orders and receipts.

Taking it further. Georgia's Fair Business Practices Act protects buyers against unfair and misleading dealing. If a contractor's sales methods or statements trouble you, you can complain to the Georgia Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division. To see whether a contractor holds a state license, try the Secretary of State's licensee search; the State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors, reached through the Secretary of State, handles license matters. Questions about a permit belong with the office that handles permits for the home's address.

Why we still want to know. A contractor complaint may be outside what we can resolve, but it matters to us. Repeated problems weigh on whether requests keep going to the same business.
